Sunny Boat Rentals, located at the Hollywood Beach docks, has been very busy, and especially busy during the week of Passover that coincided with Spring Break for students around the nation. Ever accommodating to their clients, Sunny Boat Rentals owners Dimitry Shaposhnikov and Slav Gordeyev offered special pricing for Passover to those clients who were celebrating the holiday. Word quickly spread about the kind gesture and that led to Passover food staples being brought onto the boats by the clients to combine the traditions of Passover with a great day on the water.
“We were honored to help our clients keep a Passover tradition alive aboard our boats. We have 12 boats of all sizes, and we were happy to offer everyone great service on the beautiful waters of the Intracoastal,” said Shaposhnikov.
The Jewish holiday of Passover commemorates the Israelites’ exodus from ancient Egypt, and the meals of Passover are full of symbolism, history and traditional foods. Those who observe Passover also eat matzo, a special unleavened bread, to remember that as the Jewish people fled Egypt, there was no time for the bread to rise. Rabbi Daniel Eskow said, “Part of the reason why Passover is understood and appreciated by so many, regardless of their religious background, is that the core of the holiday is about justice for all. It’s about helping the downtrodden and persecuted find freedom. We remember that we were once slaves in Egypt, and that it’s our responsibility to help others in similar situations.”
