How an Israeli NGO changes the lives of people in South Florida and around the world

In recent decades, Israel has become known for being The Start-Up Nation; an aggregator of the world’s top technology and advancements.

This idea is generally associated with the country’s booming hi-tech sector.

But this also rings true for a nonprofit organization based in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ra’anana called Beit Issie Shapiro.

For over 43 years, Beit Issie Shapiro has served as the pioneering leader and innovator in the field of disabilities. What started as a small special education school for 16 children has now become a global leader and UN consultant impacting the lives of over half a million people around the world each year.

Since day one, Beit Issie has been a forward-thinking organization with a drive to change the lives of people with disabilities and ensure that they are able to live life to its fullest through life-changing therapies and tools while also influencing policy to create a more inclusive society with opportunity for people with disabilities.

This is done through Beit Issie’s unique operating model that’s ultimate goal is to benefit the disability field everywhere. By working with people with disabilities daily, they identify where there are gaps and innovate solutions to meet these needs. After an in-house R&D team verifies their effectiveness, Beit Issie shares these innovations globally with governments, disability professionals and organizations through trainings, seminars and partnerships. To date, Beit Issie has trained over 90,000 disability professionals in thirty countries around the world including the US, Canada, UK, South Africa, China, Ghana and more.

Beit Issie innovations can be seen in the Southern Florida community. The organization has an ongoing partnership with Florida International University’s Embrace program which caters to college students with disabilities. This partnership has provided FIU with an array of professional training to benefit the university’s staff and students.

These innovative models can also be seen at the Miami Children’s Museum. The Israeli organization helped guide the museum in establishing its Snoezelen multisensory environment; an inclusive playroom for children with and without disabilities to be able to interact, play and enjoy the museum facilities together.

To end the summer, the Florida community will host a Family Day to benefit Beit Issie Shapiro at the Acqualina Resort and Spa on Sunday afternoon, August 27th. All are welcome to join a fun-filled day of activities and kosher barbeque while enjoying the Acqualina pool, beach and facilities. Admissions to the Family Day will go directly to Beit Issie Shapiro and change the lives of people with disabilities in Israel, around the world and in the South Florida community.

Entrance fees to the event range from $75 for individual admissions to $360 for a family admission. There are additional sponsorship opportunities, which include family admission and other perks as well.
