2024 Infiniti QX55’s new technology impresses

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Starting at just over $50,000, the 2024 Infiniti QX55 is a Crossover Coupe SUV with plenty of personality.

The QX55 features the turbo 2.0-liter four cylinder 268 horsepower engine, which also is in the QX50. It comes standard with all-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission, which translates to what feels like a seamless, high-performance drive.

The Infiniti’s drive mode selector allows you to choose between standard, eco, sport and personal powertrain modes to further tailor the vehicle’s responses and performance. This advanced powertrain helps the QX55 deliver fuel economy of 22 miles per gallon in the city, 28 miles per gallon on the highway and 25 miles per gallon combined.

That’s great engine performance for an SUV that feels very luxurious. Sometimes you can get a big engine and nice amenities, but the vehicle is poor on gas consumption. It’s refreshing to get great mileage on a great luxury car.

Starting on the inside, the Infiniti QX55 has a new shifter and center console design.

Interior design choices include standard leather-appointed seats and dark aluminum trim pieces. The cabin features open pore black natural maple wood accents, LED ambient lighting, semi-aniline leather-appointed seating and metallic cargo area scuff plates.

The appeal of QX55 continues with convenient connectivity from the standard Infiniti InTouch6 infotainment system. It features an 8-inch upper and 7-inch lower screen, with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

I like all of the safety technology in the car including the pro-pilot assistance which keeps you centered on your lane while driving. This is important because I’m not driving and texting, but I know a lot of other people are. I see it every day and I want to make sure I’m safe on the road even if other people aren’t.

On the front of the QX55, you get a big grille with a large Infiniti logo, which proves the point that branding is just as important as everything else. Car companies have now switched to names instead of logos, which to me don’t make that much sense. Infiniti wants to communicate luxury throughout and I think the big logo contributes to the QX55’s curb appeal.

Infiniti’s intelligent all-wheel drive is standard on every QX55, providing additional confidence and constantly adjusting torque delivery to prioritize efficiency or traction, as needed. When slippage is detected, the system can direct up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels.

The QX55 catches the eye whether on the move or at a standstill thanks to its profile, with its roofline gently arcing toward the tail in a dramatic line. Its distinctive double-arched grille flanked by LED headlights, minimalist rear end and wide, powerful stance give QX55 undeniable road presence. On all grades, 20-inch wheels are standard, further sharpening the vehicle’s visual punch.

Six exterior color choices complement QX55’s body lines: hermosa blue, graphite shadow, slate gray, black obsidian, dynamic sunstone red and radiant white, so have fun with it.

All-in-all, the 2024 Infiniti QX55 is a great drive that you will enjoy getting on the road. I know I did. Give it a spin and tell me what you think.
