Mixed-media artist Lara Venema, who splits her time between South Florida and Chicago, will be showcasing her work for the first time during Art Basel at Miami Art Week – Spectrum Miami, December 4-8.

Her work, which features strong women with fun “bling,” received enthusiastic support during 2023 at numerous art shows throughout Florida. Her schedule for 2025 is already filling up and will include:

  • Naples New Year Art Fair, January 4-5
  • Downtown Delray Beach Festival of the Arts, January 11-12

“I was overwhelmed with the reaction I received to my work when I started showing throughout Florida last season,” said Venema.  “I’m looking forward to continuing to grow my fan base here, starting with Art Basel.”

The daughter of an interior designer, Venema grew up around art and always knew it was her passion. She earned a bachelor’s degree of fine arts from Columbia College in Chicago and enjoys adorning her paintings with unconventional materials such as money, cans, Swarovski crystals, tapes, disco balls to create what she describes as “vibrant narratives.”

“The use of these materials presents dimensionality and invites viewers into a celebration of pop culture and life,” she explained.
