BCPS Superintendent Announces Teacher of the Year Finalists with Surprise School Visits

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to announce the esteemed finalists for the coveted 2025 Teacher of the Year award. These exceptional educators have been selected from a pool of highly qualified nominees, demonstrating outstanding dedication, innovative teaching methods, and unwavering commitment to student success.

 

In a heartwarming surprise on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn, joined by School Board members, District administrators and school leaders, surprised the Teacher of the Year finalists with the announcement and gift baskets in their classrooms.

 

These five talented finalists, with over 100 years of combined experience in BCPS, exemplify the highest standards of teaching excellence. Their passion, creativity and leadership inspire students, colleagues and their communities. The Teacher of the Year award honors individuals who embody the District’s mission to provide exceptional educational experiences, and who empower students to reach their full potential.

 

Congratulations to the following finalists:

 

  • Lillie deCastro, Magnet Coordinator, William T. McFatter Technical College and High School
  • Matthew Feiler, Computer Science Teacher, West Broward High School
  • Richard D. Lamarre, Science Teacher, Miramar High School
  • Dr. Jennifer Mehu, First Grade Teacher, Park Lakes Elementary School
  • Deanna Waters, Literacy Coach, Sawgrass Springs Middle School
“We are proud to recognize these outstanding educators for their dedication and passion for teaching,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Hepburn. “Their tireless efforts and commitment to excellence make a lasting impact on our students’ lives.”
