The Village of Palmetto Bay conducted its Swearing-In Ceremony for its newly elected officials on Monday Dec. 9 in the council chambers of Village Hall. Mark Merwitzer, who was elected Vice Mayor in the Nov. 5 general election, and Steve Cody, re-elected as District 2 council member, were formally sworn in.
Merwitzer was sworn in by Miami-Dade County District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins and Cody was sworn in by village clerk Missy Arocha. Following the ceremony a celebratory Village Hall Promenade Ceremony took place in the Chambers. Light refreshments were served to those attending.
The event, taking place from 6 to 7 p.m. was immediately followed by a Hybrid Regular Council Meeting with limited agenda items. Proclamations, awards and presentations began at 6:30 p.m.
The Village Manager’s Report included a presentation by the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) executive director, Javier Betancourt; a presentation by Diadem Pickleball about the pickleball courts, departmental updates and the Police Commander’s Report.
The Village Attorney’s Report included an update of information about pending litigation and the Village Clerk’s Report was about the calendar for January 2025.
A resolution on first reading regarding future town hall procedures was read.
