The Community Foundation of Broward – which for more than 40 years has been the Broward County leader for charitable giving offering financial stewardship, strategic grantmaking and unmatched expertise – is proud to announce its BE BOLD Leadership Campaign raised $415 Million to tackle Broward’s biggest challenges. The campaign, which launched in the 2017–2018 fiscal year and concluded on Dec. 31, 2024, set out to secure a stronger future for Broward by inspiring bold philanthropy. The Community Foundation of Broward ranks among the top 100 community foundations in the United States with current assets of more than $300 million.

The BE BOLD Leadership Campaign raised $415 million, including $150 million in new gifts and pledges, and $265 million in estate plan commitments, providing sustained, long-term impact for the Broward County Community. The campaign resulted in unprecedented growth in endowed giving with 173 new endowed funds by individuals, families and organizations, providing permanent philanthropic resources to address Broward’s most pressing needs – now and for generations to come. The campaign welcomed 31 new Community Builders, visionary donors who each committed $1 million or more in endowed charitable funds to drive lasting impact in Broward. Once fully realized, funds raised through BE BOLD will more than double annual grantmaking fueling critical support for education, the arts, health care, the environment, social services and more. While the campaign’s official end marks a milestone for the Foundation, the impact will continue, ensuring permanent, flexible resources to meet Broward’s evolving needs and emerging challenges.

The BE BOLD Leadership Campaign gained traction with the unyielding support of the following Community Foundation of Broward Board Chairs: Ramon A. Rodriguez, Steven W. Hudson, James Donnelly, Kurt Zimmerman, and Juliet Murphy Roulhac. The campaign was named by Board Member Alice Lucia Jackson.

“We are incredibly proud of the success of our BE BOLD Leadership Campaign that was only made possible because of visionary donors and community leaders who stepped up to create a legacy of impact,” said Community Foundation of Broward President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D. “With the BE BOLD Leadership Campaign’s financial foundation in place, we invite our donors and community to join us in the next phase – Lead With Love. Whether through an endowed fund, a planned gift or an annual contribution, every act of philanthropy helps build a stronger, more vibrant Broward County.”

Following the success of the BE BOLD Leadership Campaign, the Community Foundation of Broward is proud to launch Lead With Love – its new mantra moving forward as an organization. Lead With Love emphasizes the heart behind giving, inspiring donors to invest not only financially, but also emotionally, socially and collaboratively in Broward County’s future.

Unlike the BE BOLD Leadership Campaign’s focus on individual leadership, Lead With Love fosters collective action, encouraging more people to participate in philanthropy that uplifts Broward. Lead With Love highlights the role of philanthropy in creating equitable opportunities for all residents, strengthening connections between donors and the causes they care about, and empowering nonprofits with sustainable resources to expand their missions.

The Foundation’s endowed funds fuel multi-year initiatives that tackle complex challenges, such as environmental initiatives, providing educational opportunities for underserved youth, investing in the arts and culture to enrich Broward’s creative community, advancing social and economic mobility for families, and strengthening Broward’s nonprofit sector.

Over the past 40 years, Broward’s population has doubled and is now larger than 13 states. It is projected to grow to 2.3 million by 2030. The challenges and opportunities that come with rapid growth are more complex than ever before. The Foundation is pleased to serve as Broward County’s philanthropic experts.

Presently, the Foundation shepherds 571 charitable funds, and in over 40 years, it has provided nearly $200 million in support to Broward nonprofit organizations. All grants are made possible by the dedicated fundholders who partner with the Foundation to create charitable funds to fuel their philanthropy.
