In an effort to support “green” strides within the community, Old Cuter Towne Center — located at Old Cutler Road and SW 204th Street — hosted a reusable bag giveaway, encouraging tenants to pass on plastic for a day and promote the use of eco-friendly, blue baggage.
On the morning of June 23, Luis Diaz, the center’s property manager, spearheaded the giveaway by posting up shop outside the center’s retail anchor — Publix — alongside Cutler Bay Mayor Ed MacDougall and Publix manager Bill Pacetti. As customers entered and exited the store, the group handed out the center’s custom-made, bright blue totes, along with Publix branded eco-bags. Throughout the morning, they shared smiles and greetings with the center’s regulars and expressed the importance of using reusable bags over plastics ones.
“The bag giveaway was a wonderful way to show support of eco-practices, all while providing an opportunity for everyone to come together,” said Kathy Mulkern, Florida Regional director for Sansone Group, the center’s management company. “The event is one of many initiatives we have planned to develop the center into an environmentally sound, community staple.”
Mayor MacDougall added, “The Town of Cutler Bay has been for a number of years engaged in moving towards a truly ‘green’ city.”
Prior to the event, Diaz, who works with Sansone Group, passed out hundreds of bags to the neighborhood hub’s more than 30 tenants, asking them to give out the reusable totes to patrons and promote the center’s “green” strides.
