Today we are honoring and recognizing the heroes out there saving our lives on a daily basis.” Applause rang out as appreciation was expressed to Emergency Medical Services by Steven D. Sonenreich, Mount Sinai Medical Center President and CEO, when the hospital hosted the Aventura Marketing Council’s November breakfast meeting. The event honored EMS teams from the City of Hallandale Beach, Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County.
Bob Hollander of Brown & Brown Insurance, standing in for AMC Chairman Cliff Schulman of Weiss, Serota & Helfman, welcomed hundreds of business and community leaders gathered at Turnberry Isle Miami Resort along with Sonenreich; Mount Sinai Senior Vice President Charlene Welker; and Dr. Antonio Gandia, Medical Director of Mount Sinai Aventura’s freestanding emergency department – which has earned some of the highest patient satisfaction scores for emergency care.
“Mount Sinai Aventura is truly a new freestanding emergency medicine model,” Dr. Gandia noted.
“We’re providing an alternative site for EMS teams by reducing wait times for beds.” Staffed by a team of emergency care professionals, the Mount Sinai Aventura ER is equipped with advanced technology, providing the high quality care expected from South Florida’s largest private, nonprofit hospital. Services available include acute care for walk-in or ambulance/ EMS arrivals; ambulance transport to the main Mount Sinai campus if necessary; care for adults and children; and around the clock care, seven days a week.
Mount Sinai Aventura, located at 2845 Aventura Boulevard across from Aventura Mall, also encompasses a comprehensive Cancer Center; Diagnostic Center and primary and specialty care physician offices.
Sonenreich explained, “The establishment of our Aventura satellite campus in 1985, complemented by the addition of South Florida’s first freestanding ER in 2008, has enabled us to better serve residents and physicians in this growing region.”
Following the presentation of poignant videos documenting real life stories of patients whose lives were saved thanks to Mount Sinai and EMS teams, special introductions were made for Hallandale Beach Chief Daniel Sullivan; Miami Beach Chiefs Javier Otero and Francois Betancourt; and Miami-Dade Chief John Krumenacker and Captain Jeff Roberts. Talented vocalist, ten year-old Biana Pinchuk, continued the tribute with an inspiring serenade, Wind Beneath My Wings.
“It’s a privilege to honor our heroes – the men and women of fire rescue and EMS teams who share Mount Sinai’s goal to provide the best possible care to every patient,” Sonenreich said. “These dedicated professionals provide day-to-day care on the front lines and our hospital personnel work very closely with them.
It’s largely because of their speed, focus, expertise and commitment to excellence that many people are alive today.”
“As first responders, they valiantly deliver care and comfort to patients before they ever reach the doors of our emergency rooms. Thank you for your service – you are indeed heroes who can never be honored enough for the work you do.”
