Alumni, student, friends, family, and donors enjoyed celebrating Miami Christian School’s Sixtieth Birthday. The weekend festivities began with a Golf Tournament on a picture perfect but very windy day at Killian Greens Golf Course. Players enjoyed a scramble tournament after breakfast and then a wonderful hot lunch on the greens where the Miami Christian School Jazz band provided live entertainment before the awards presentations.
The golf tournament and the picnic the following day were a great success thanks to all of the event sponsors, including Sam’s Club, Coca Cola, Outback Steakhouse, Gomez and Sons Fencing, Neil’s Catering, Trinity Home Health Care, Ranees Fashions, The Giving Tree, One Life Nation, Martica’s Sweet Creations, Community Newspapers, NLCP Baseball, TKL Enterprises, I-Hop, Miami Tropics, and Fox-Mar, among others.
The Saturday birthday festivities began with a patriotic song sung by the elementary school students. Following their performance, Commissioner Jose (Pepe) Diaz presented the school with a Proclamation from the County naming Mar. 8 as “Miami Christian School Day”. Alumni from the Class of 1964 who traveled from around the nation to attend were invited to join the Commissioner for the presentation and for a group photo op. Following his presentation surrounded by alumni, many of whom were from the Class of 1964, countless raffle prizes were awarded.
A tour of the school by Dr. Lorena Morrison for visiting alumni brought back lots of great memories. Lunch followed with some competitive volleyball and other games that added to the day’s fun.
The Family Fun Day Picnic served not only as a way to reconnect with old friends but also as a fundraiser for additional Interactive Boards for school’s classrooms for use of integrated technology for the students. Everyone, including former and current students, enjoyed flipping through 60 years of yearbooks, sometimes finding their own teacher as young students on those pages. • • • In other news, the Robotics Engineering Class and some of the Mathematics students attended the FIU Engineering Expo where they were able to experience various projects the FIU students had created and designed. The students were inspired to try out new ventures on their own projects at MCS.

The Middle School students enjoyed physical activities and games competing with one another during their field day. The beautiful weather and athletic competitions provided a great way for students to get ready for a week off for Spring Break.
In addition, students from the Middle and High Schools enjoyed a second retreat to Teen Valley Ranch prior to Spring Break. This was an especially fun trip this year as the extended winter season offered snow and all were able to enjoy skiing in March!
