Fifteen year-old Alyssa Villa had her wish to ‘go shopping at the Aventura Mall’ granted, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and some wonderful Aventura Mall stores who helped Alyssa celebrate reaching her ‘one-year, cancer-free’ diagnosis. After 30 weeks of cancer treatment and multiple surgeries for osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, her last day of treatment proclaiming her cancer free was celebrated on August 15, 2020 with a ‘ringing of the bell’.
Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman signed a proclamation proclaiming August 15, 2021 as “Alyssa Villa Day” in Aventura, and Vice Mayor Dr. Linda Marks presented the proclamation to Alyssa, welcoming her to Aventura on her very special day at the Aventura Mall accompanied by Kim Rubin from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Dr. Marks said, “ It was so heartwarming to see such a special young lady work her way through her challenges and be able to move on to a wonderful future. Alyssa truly is fearless and I was proud to present her with her “Fearless” cap from the City of Aventura.”
A limousine provided first-class transport to the Aventura Mall, where Vice Mayor Marks greeted her along with the Aventura Police Department. Then it was time for Alyssa’s VIP shopping spree, compliments of the Make-A-Wish Foundation before enjoying lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, a VIP makeup session and a visit to the Apple Store.
