For the past 22 years, through four Mayors and many Commissioners, there has been one ‘constant’ in the City of Aventura—Joanne Carr, Community Development Director. She planned the design and construction of new infrastructure, and assisted in the management of the City’s current infrastructure and urban resources, always adapting plans for population growth and development.

Working closely with each administration, Joanne expertly provided the knowledge and leadership to assure that the vision of the City’s founders continued to be honored.

Whether a developer wanted to build a mall or hotel or a small business wanted to add a new room, it was Joanne they worked with to create plans that would be accepted by the Mayor and Commissioners. With Joanne’s steady hand and guidance, the City has blossomed into a world-class destination.

City leaders held a retirement luncheon recently for Joanne at Bonefish Grill Aventura, and joining a group of current and former City Commissioners and City administration were current Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman and two prior Mayors: Susan Gottlieb and Jeff

Perlow. Mayor Weisman said, “Joanne, you really have earned the title, Mother of Aventura. You gave this City your passion, you gave this city your commitment and you gave this city your love. We can never say THANK YOU enough!”

Joanne said, “It has been a privilege and honor to serve our City leaders and the residents of the City of Aventura, and I will miss the many friends I have made over the years. I am confident that Keven Klopp, the City’s new Community Development Director will do an excellent job and keep our City of Aventura the “City of Excellence”.
