FIU President Dr. Mark Rosenberg announced that Florida International University has climbed 17 spots to No. 78 among public universities in the nation, according to the U.S. News and World Report 2022 National University Rankings released recently.

This ascent represents the largest jump among Florida universities and third in the nation among public universities. In addition, they placed among the top five public universities for social mobility and held on to the No. 2 spot for international business. Other significant rankings include No. 17 most innovative among public U.S. institutions and No. 75 best college for veterans.

President Rosenberg said, “Our climb in the rankings is yet another measure of our impact as a university, and a testament to the commitment of every Panther. Here at FIU, we are student-centered. We are focused on using research and innovation to make a difference in the lives of our learners and uplift our community. And our efforts are paying off.

Central to our rankings success is FIU’s increase in six-year graduation rates, especially among Pell Grant recipients. We were also recognized for improvements in class size and student-faculty ratio, and for putting in place evidence-based, innovative programs under the Office of Student Access and Success.

We are on the rise indeed, Panthers. With this milestone, we’re getting closer to ranking among the Top 50 public universities in U.S. News. And it is all because of you, our students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters. Your hard work, resilience and commitment to success are unwavering, and are instrumental in helping us write the next chapter of FIU’s history.

Congratulations, Panthers!

The jump in the U.S. News rankings comes on the heels of a banner year for FIU that includes: Placing first among public universities in the state in the Board of Governor’s performance metrics; receiving a $40 million donation from philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott and her husband Dan Jewett that recognizes FIU’s access and excellence initiatives; ranking third in the nation among universities under 50 years old; and being elected into APSIA, an elite network of schools of international and public affairs.”
