FPL and FIU unveiled an innovative microgrid. In the event of an outage due to severe weather, the FIU-FPL microgrid will be capable of supplying backup power to FIU’s engineering campus for roughly 24 hours depending on electrical usage. The facility will enable FIU faculty and students to conduct cutting-edge research and will enable FPL to learn more about microgrids – which could create a smarter, stronger, more resilient grid.
