Happy Hour is typically spent unwinding after a day’s work, but Vi at Aventura residents Janet and Hank Solomon take the time to walk the Don Soffer Aventura Fitness Trail or on the treadmill at the community’s fitness center. It’s exactly what they’ve been doing for decades. Activity has always played an important role in the Solomons’ life and was instrumental in managing the demands of parenthood, running their own event rental equipment company, and maintaining healthy habits that would sustain them for a long and healthy retirement.
The Solomons moved to North Miami Beach from Pittsburgh in 1973, and when they weren’t working, the couple spent much of their time at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC, where they attended fitness classes and ran the indoor track. For the Solomons, physical activity has been a great way to develop friendships and assisted them in getting them through challenging times. “Exercise is like breathing for me,” said Janet Solomon. “It has been my saving grace.”
The Solomons’ desire to live their best lives has always been a priority. From running marathons, to scuba diving, and horseback riding, the couple has embraced new adventures all their lives. Over the years, they have traveled far and wide, reaching Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and beyond. The couple credits their healthy lifestyle to eating light, working out thoughtfully and consistently, and most of all, enjoying the process.
“We have a commitment to wellness here at the Vi, and there is no better couple that exemplifies that than the Solomons,” said Renee Garvin, Vi at Aventura’s Executive Director.
