The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Southern Florida Market is proud to present the 8 Fort Lauderdale candidates and 50 team members who have signed up for Man and Woman of the Year®– an innovative and fierce ten-week fundraising competition. The 2021 campaign is spearheaded by Honorary Chair, Alberto M. Carvalho, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and Chair, Susan Renneisen, Vice President of Community Affairs & Special Events at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
During this ten-week period, these community leaders raise critical funds, which LLS deploys to advance breakthrough treatments and to support the more than 1.3 million blood cancer patients in the U.S. The man and woman who raises the most funds at the end of the competition are awarded the prestigious title of Man and Woman of the Year. Top local fundraisers become eligible to win the national title.
During the campaign, candidates form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor a local boy and girl of the year who are currently battling or are in remission from a blood cancer. As Honorary Chair of the Southern Florida Market, comprising both the Miami-Dade and Fort Lauderdale campaigns, Superintendent Carvalho is raising monies in honor of all children battling cancer in South Florida.
“It’s inspiring to watch these influential men and women work so hard to fundraise and help us find cancer cures,” said DeAnn Hazey, CFRE, LLS South Florida Region Executive Director. “For these incredible candidates and their teams, it’s not just about winning a title, it’s about partnering with other mission-driven individuals and collectively making an impact in their communities and the generations ahead of them. They will help us advance the development of new childhood cancer treatments for the first time in 40 years with the LLS Children’s Initiative, leading the way in treating cancer and caring for patients.”
The campaign runs from April 5 through June 10, 2021. The winning candidates will be announced at the Virtual Grand Finale Celebration presented by The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood on Thursday, June 10th.
Man and Woman of the Year provides a way to engage an elite group of community and business leaders for a common cause.
