Sometimes we don’t realize how a small act of kindness can change someone’s life. Such was the case when Lois Lax, Vice President of Biscayne Cove Condominium Association asked Belina Nagar, President of ORNA Security, if she knew of an organization that might want some used bikes from her condominium’s annual clean-up. Belina said “Yes!” and called the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce with the request. “We don’t know the condition of the bikes…they are definitely used…but our hopes are to have them donated to some group that could really use them and can fix them enough to be able to ride. We’ll put air in the tires and transport them to the group. We know there are children out there who don’t have bikes, and hopefully this will bring a smile to their faces.”
Lois Lax added, “Every year, Biscayne Cove does a ‘Bicycle Clean Up.’ This year we worked with our wonderful security company Orna to donate the bicycles to students at North Miami Beach Senior High School through the assistance of the Aventura Marketing Council. We hope everyone enjoys them.”
Within minutes, a phone call to Veronica Martin from North Miami Beach Sr. High School brought about an excited, “YES…no matter what the condition the bikes are in!” Veronica, Special Education Teacher at the school, said, “It was so exciting to watch the faces and hear the reaction of our school volunteers as the U-Haul rolled up its doors and we saw a mountain of bikes. Wow! Bikes! Bikes of all sizes! The joy and gratitude cannot be expressed in words as the staff and students helped unload the bikes off the truck. We are grateful to the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce for connecting us with ORNA Security and to Biscayne Cove Condo Association that donated more than twenty-five bicycles to our school. The bicycles are used, some are in need of repairs, but a life-changing opportunity awaits those who wanted or never had a bike. You never know what one small act of kindness can do to change a life. The staff and student are a-buzz with excitement….. they all want to help fix or distribute the bikes. Then thirty minutes later, the U-Haul came back with a couch that went to our Drama Department to replace the one that had holes in it. We give thanks for the many blessings because it is raining sunshine over NMB today. The staff and students at North Miami Beach Senior High School are so very grateful for this generous donation. “
