Aventura’s children have reported an increase in superhero sightings in recent weeks. The scene of most of these sightings – the Aventura Community Recreation Center.
Well-known superheroes such as Captain America, Spiderman, and Disney Princesses Jasmine and Elsa were invited to the city by Community Services Director Kimberly Merchant. Merchant said that each superhero and princess was in town to assist with vaccinating Aventura’s children against COVID-19. “After each child received their vaccine, their favorite superhero escorted them to enjoy cotton candy, a snow cone and popcorn in a celebration of their newfound superhero status,” said Merchant.
Aventura Vice Mayor Rachel Saltzman Friedland, who attended both the November 14th and December 5th vaccination events with her daughters, said, “These superhero children are protecting their families, friends, classmates and teachers by getting vaccinated. We are all grateful to them and their parents for helping to make Aventura a safer and healthier community.”
In all, the city says it provided approximately 200 vaccinations over the two events, including a few parents taking the opportunity to have their booster shots.
Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman said the city would consider anything they could do to help people get vaccinated. She also praised the city’s staff for putting together a fun atmosphere to encourage children to get vaccinated, saying, “Our staff is second to none. I am so incredibly proud of the people who organized this event–they really and truly keep Aventura as “The City of Excellence.”
