Warren Henry Auto Group hosts meeting

It’s been a difficult year…for many people, many businesses and organizations. COVID…..Surfside …Haiti…..Afghanistan, and in between were the hurricanes and threat of hurricanes that spared us in South Florida but leveled their fury at Haiti and North Florida going up the coastline. But the American people are resilient and whether the tragedy is here at home or overseas, they come together to help. When Champlain Towers South in Surfside collapsed, not only our local community offered help and support, but countries such as Israel and Mexico sent their professional teams to help as well.

The Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce (AMC) recently held a luncheon sponsored by the Warren Henry Automotive Group hosted at the Trump International Beach Resort to share the thoughts from the Town of Surfside’s Crisis Management team that dealt with the tragedy every step of the way. Samantha Woulfe, Marketing Director for the Warren Henry Automotive Group, said, “ We felt compelled to sponsor this particular event to support the Town of Surfside after the recent tragedy. When we were made aware of the opportunity we did not hesitate to offer our services to host this important luncheon so the Town of Surfside could give us a debriefing and talk about the lessons learned from such a tragedy. Our team at Warren Henry Auto Group welcomes you to this luncheon as well as to our dealership in North Miami. A gentleman with a great reputation, Brian Andrews, was then introduced by Woulfe. Brian Andrews is a longtime AMC member and founder of The News Directors, a company that provides crisis management and communications services to local governments and private businesses. Andrews and his team worked closely with the Town of Surfside to handle crisis management and communications to a town and nation in shock as news of the collapse of Champlain Towers South spread worldwide almost instantaneously. Andrews introduced the panelists, beginning with Town Manager, Andrew Hyatt, who was joined by the town’s crisis management and communications team in a debrief to the AMC’s Chairman’s Roundtable members. “I would have never imagined this happening here,” said Hyatt. “We were so blessed that so many people reached out to help.” The Manager acknowledged the kindness of many AMC members, including the City of Aventura, the Aventura Police Department, The B-12 Store in Aventura Mall, Mo’s Bagels, Bagel Cove, and a host of other businesses who donated their time and services in support of the Town staff and first responders. “We want you to know these lovely gestures made such a difference,” said Manager Hyatt. In addition to the Town’s Communications Director, Malorie Dauginikas, the event also featured a debrief from Brian Andrews and Carlos Gonzalez of The News Directors, the Town’s contracted crisis management team. “The major take- away for us was the huge number of people who wanted to help,” said Andrews. “Donations quickly began to pile up at Town Hall and staff made sure all the different gestures of kindness, donations of products and food were sent all over the Town so nothing went to waste.” Andrews says volunteers showing up and “self-deploying” was a real issue that needed to be managed. “Our best advice would be to call ahead and ask where or what is needed….don’t just show up.” Andrews spoke of how the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County worked together to quickly develop a database of available volunteers and their areas of expertise. Carlos Gonzalez, an attorney who serves as legal counsel to The News Directors and their crisis clients, spoke of the importance of having both an internal and external communications plan in the event of a disaster. “Your employees need to be in sync with what you are telling your customers and members of the public.”
