“Life is a cabaret, my friend…come to the cabaret” ! Ah…images of Liza Minelli in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical “Cabaret” come to mind when looking back at the recent 13th annual Gulfstream Park YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE presented by Warren Henry Auto Group in the beautiful Sport of Kings Theater at Gulfstream Park, with proceeds benefiting the AMC Education Foundation . A cabaret is more fun than a concert…there’s a special ‘feel-good’ buzz when you leave the venue with a smile. And that’s exactly what happened as the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce (AMC) recently held their signature event there.
Greg DiVincent, Vice President of Marketing for Gulfstream Park, said,
“We were thrilled to bring the Young Stars Showcase to Gulfstream Park. Having this event shows our willingness to be a great partner in the community, which is crucial to us. The evening was exceptional and congrats to the amazing performers.”
The number one rule to have a successful cabaret show is to have great performers and that was done spectacularly well with the stars of the show… eight fabulous Young Star singers who amazed the audience with their incredible voices and stage presence: Mason Pace (“Ready To Go” and “Feelin’ Good”); Jazzy Rose (“Led Zeppelin Medley” and “At Last”); Emily Taylor Kaufman (“A Moment Like This” and “Proud Mary”) ; Kristin Marii (“Human” and “In My Mind”); Diana Pombo aka Lady D (“Bound To You” and “Wait”); Camila Pocovi (“Beat It”); Sofia Gonzalez Grande (“Give Me A Reason”), and Jaina Villanueva (“Talking To The Moon”). From rock to classic to Broadway to pop…the evening was alive with breathtaking young singers and great music from the band: Williams
Sigismondi, Jr. on the piano, Mason Pace on guitar, Roilan Vazquez on saxophone and Jose Ferrer on drums.
Creative Director Ran Oz, CEO of CooLAM Productions, saw the exciting new possibilities at The Sport of Kings Theater and worked closely with Greg DiVincent, Vice President of Marketing for Gulfstream Park, to ensure that this family event would present the theater and the YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE in a new light. From the 40’ LED screen above the stage becoming part of the evening’s entertainment, to the indoor fireworks, smoke and haze that Ran brought in to enhance the performances, the entire evening felt like an evening at a cabaret with strobe lights, ongoing videos on the huge LED screen and music—extraordinary music.
Ran said, “This year, we had some unusual challenges, like hurricanes and tropical storms that delayed rehearsals, but our team came through with flying colors. On the evening of the show, there was a huge storm, but that didn’t stop the audience from showing up—they knew they would be in for a special treat with our amazing Young Stars. The performances were just outstanding, and I’m so very proud of all of our Young Stars. I’ve had the good fortune to be the Creative Director for the YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE that benefits the Aventura Marketing Council Education Foundation since its inception in 2010, and it’s so gratifying to watch our Young Stars grow and prosper and become major talents over the years.
