The volunteer team of residents of the Community Ambassador Panel (CAP) , has remained proactive in its mission to bridge the gap between the Aventura Police Department and the residents of the City of Aventura. Working in partnership with the Aventura Police Foundation (APF), the CAP has continued to sponsor and manage a variety of events and outreach programs which have successfully helped to create and foster understanding and appreciation between the citizens and the men and women of the police force who serve them.
Among recent activities, the CAP assisted with Coffee With A Cop, Ellie’s Army Foundation events, Share The Road Bike effort, the end-of-the-year celebration at ACES school, Winter Wonderland, Founder’s Day celebration, Halloween Movie Night that drew more than two thousand participants as well as Pop Up Tent Events that take place on Aventura Circle by the entrance to DelVista. At these events, team members interact with their neighbors, provide water and other consumables, and sometimes sell CAP and APF merchandise with funds raised to supplement the department’s equipment, training and outreach needs. An effort has been recently initiated to enlist local merchants to participate in a “ROUND UP” program where customers are encouraged to round up their purchases with that extra amount earmarked for the APF.
The election in November saw three members of the CAP being chosen to take new positions with the City: Howard Weinberg is now Mayor of Aventura, with Amit Bloom and Michael Stern now serving as Commissioners. While Michael will remain a member (and Chair) of CAP, Jerry Marks and former Commissioner Denise Landman have been appointed as new members . The APF also welcomed two new members. former Aventura Commissioner Luz Weinberg and Edgar Monserratt.
