A Letter of Appreciation
“Dear Chief Bryan Pegues,
This is a thank you and an appreciation letter for the team you lead. My name is Dr. Felice Ferri and I’m a surgeon who resides in Venezuela. I trusted my family savings to Wells Fargo, that was before the Venezuelan crisis. In May, I was a victim of identity theft for a total of $9,970. We Private Doctors in Venezuela charge USD $2 per office appointment, so you would understand how big the amount is when you compare it to our current income. After Wells Fargo denied our claim, we were devastated. The next day, I contacted the Aventura Police Dept by phone and Officer Belinda Alvarez in the most professional but pleasant way requested the information needed from me and opened a case. By the following week, the Detective Sandra Marquez was assigned to it. That very same week Detective Marquez got the picture of the thieves doing the purchases in the Apple stores, but her work didn’t end there, she accompanied me all over this fight! She directly contacted Wells Fargo on several occasions and because of her work, the bank refunded us the stolen money. I just want to share with you this grateful experience, you must be a magnificent leader and I can assure you have a magnificent team on my case, not just because they delivered but because the way they did it. As the victim, I always felt accompanied by both Officer Alvarez and Detective Marquez. I always felt like they cared about my problem, and I never felt like a foreigner. I always was treated as a first class citizen. It was an honor for me to be attended by your Police Department. Thank you very much Mr. Pegues for your work and for your team.

APD Citizen’s Police Academy
The Aventura Police Department recently recognized the hard work and dedication of their Citizen’s Police Academy graduates who dedicate 12 weeks of their lives to learning more about the challenges of law enforcement. Chief Bryan Pegues made special mention of Sgt. Chris Goranitis whose passion for the community shows in the quality of citizen’s program that he coordinated. APD also had the opportunity to host two unique graduates, Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman & Steve Weisman, who have been unwavering in their support. Chief Pegues said, “It is very challenging to be a police officer this day in age. The nonstop trainings, the physical rigors, the ongoing legal updates and the ever present danger makes this a job that only the strongest can do. It is a great opportunity for Aventura PD to host a Citizen’s Police Academy because it provides an avenue for community involvement and firsthand experience of policing. This academy is intended to facilitate a more harmonious relationship between members of the community and law enforcement. Ultimately this all about PEOPLE…taking the time to listen and learn. Working to keep open the avenues of communication while joining together to do good works.”
