Broward County School Board Elects New Chair and Vice Chair & Welcomes Two Newly Elected and Three Re-elected Board Members

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the School Board of Broward County, Florida elected Debra Hixon (Countywide At-Large, Seat 9) as Chair and Sarah Leonardi (District 3) as Vice Chair. The nominations and election took place during the Board’s annual Organizational Meeting, following a Swearing-in Ceremony for newly elected and re-elected School Board members.

 

The newly elected leaders, Chair Hixon (previously Vice Chair) and Vice Chair Leonardi, were both first elected to the School Board in 2020.

 

The Board also welcomed two newly elected members, Maura McCarthy Bulman (District 1) and Rebecca Thompson (District 2); and re-elected members Sarah Leonardi (District 3), Dr. Jeff Holness (District 5) and Debra Hixon (Countywide At-Large, Seat 9), who took their oath of office. Each of the newly elected and re-elected members will serve a four-year term.

 

Additional, School Board members currently serving on the Board include, Lori Alhadeff (District 4), Brenda Fam, Esq. (District 6), Nora Rupert (District 7) and Dr. Allen Zeman (Countywide At-Large, Seat 8),
