Educational Federal Credit Union (EdFed) has unveiled a new mission statement to help celebrate its 90th anniversary on April 1. With a stated mission to “Educate and empower our members to achieve their financial dreams,” the $1.6 billion dollar, Miami-based credit union has made their new mission statement a key element of their upcoming anniversary celebration.

”At EdFed, we want to be a catalyst for the financial empowerment of our members,” said Michael DiBenedetto, EdFed’s President & CEO. “Our new mission statement reflects our unwavering focus on understanding the financial dreams of each member and helping to make their dreams a reality,” added DiBenedetto.

Originally founded in 1935 as Dade County Florida Teachers Federal Credit Union, EdFed has grown to be the largest credit union in South Florida in both assets and membership.  The credit union, now serving more than 108,000 members, has experienced a growth rate nearly two and a half times the long term average growth rate in the credit union industry. Additionally, EdFed provides over $500,000 annually in student scholarships, classroom grants, and sponsorships of educational initiatives.

EdFed’s Board Chair Claude Archer highlighted the importance of the new mission statement. “When we created our new mission statement, we wanted to articulate the vision of our organization, both now and in the future,” said Archer. “We are experiencing tremendous growth in membership, and our mission articulates why so many school employees, students, and their families are choosing EdFed to help them achieve their financial dreams,” continued Archer.

In addition to the new mission statement, EdFed has also launched a member sweepstakes and other special promotions leading up to the official 90th anniversary celebration on April 1.
