Carlos Antonio Gimenez has been a stalwart advocate for the people of Florida’s 28th Congressional District since his election to Congress in 2020. Representing Monroe County and the southwest portion of Miami-Dade County, Carlos embodies a deep commitment to public service and community.
Carlos’s journey began in 1975 with the City of Miami Fire Department, where he dedicated 25 years as a firefighter, ultimately rising to Chief—becoming the first Cuban American to hold that prestigious position. His dedication to public safety and community service laid the foundation for a remarkable career in public administration. His passion for serving others was further demonstrated when he managed the City of Miami from 2000, overseeing a $500 million budget and spearheading critical fiscal reforms that reduced the city’s tax rate to its lowest in 50 years.
In 2011, Carlos was elected Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida’s largest county. During his tenure, he focused on fiscal responsibility, transparency, and substantial tax relief, achieving a historic $2 billion tax cut for county taxpayers. His leadership was reaffirmed with re-elections in 2012 and 2016, underscoring his effectiveness and dedication to public service.
Now serving in Congress, Carlos brings a unique perspective as the first career firefighter paramedic to serve in this role. His committee assignments on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and Chinese Communist Party highlight his commitment to national security and strategic issues.
Carlos’s dedication extends beyond his official duties. He is an active member of numerous caucuses, including the Abraham Accords Caucus, the Bipartisan Space and Aeronautics Caucus, and the Conservative Climate Caucus, among others. His involvement in these groups reflects his broad commitment to advancing various critical issues, from international relations to environmental policy.
A proud graduate of Christopher Columbus High School and Barry University, Carlos has also obtained his paramedic certification from Miami-Dade College and completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University. His extensive background in public administration and emergency services equips him with a rare combination of practical experience and strategic insight.
Carlos Gimenez is a dedicated family man, married to Lourdes, with three children and six grandchildren. His life’s work reflects his deep-rooted values of service and commitment to his community.
For voters seeking a leader with proven experience, a track record of effective governance, and a heartfelt dedication to public service, Carlos Gimenez stands out as the clear choice. His ongoing commitment to addressing both local and national issues makes him an invaluable asset to Florida’s 28th Congressional District and beyond.
