The Florida Credit Union Association, a subsidiary of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates, proudly announces that Congressman Byron Donalds (FL-19) has been named the 2024 Federal Lawmaker of the Year in Florida. He was formally honored last week at the America’s Credit Unions Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
“Thank you to the dozens of credit union officials from across the Sunshine State who joined us in our nation’s capital last week,” expressed Congressman Byron Donalds, Member of the House Financial Services Committee. “I am honored to be named as the 2024 Federal Lawmaker of the Year.”
“Having a strong advocate like Congressman Donalds fighting for credit union priorities is essential. His leadership on critical issues, from reforming the CFPB to finding balanced approaches to interchange and data security, ensures that credit unions can continue serving their members effectively,” commented Samantha A.M. Beeler, President of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates. “We are proud to honor him for his exceptional advocacy and look forward to his continued partnership.”
After being nominated by the Federal Advocacy Policy Committee, Congressman Donalds’ nomination was unanimously approved by The League’s Board of Directors following discussion of his support for credit unions and their legislative priorities.
“Congressman Donalds has been a steadfast ally for credit unions, standing with us on the House Financial Services Committee to champion solutions that support consumers and community financial institutions like credit unions,” conveyed Grace Newcombe Colvin, Vice President of Federal Advocacy and Strategy at The League. “Florida credit unions are proud to work with leaders like Congressman Donalds to empower consumers and advance local communities.”
Congressman Donalds’ career in Southwest Florida provided him extensive experience in the banking, finance, and insurance industries—creating a deep understanding of the work of credit unions. Dedicated to giving back to the community that has shaped him, Congressman Donalds is steadfast in his commitment to representing the values of Florida’s 19th Congressional District in Washington, D.C. He serves on the House Committee on Financial Services, with assignments on the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy and the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Inclusion.
