Heartbeats for PATCHES, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising vital funds and awareness for PATCHES Pedi atric Nursing Center, hosted a successful Let the Games Begin Day event at Bet Shira Congregation in Pinecrest on May 1.
The event brought the South Dade com munity together for a day of friendly com petition, shopping and philanthropy in support of the medically fragile children at PATCHES.
Attendees participated in lively Mahjong and Canasta games, browsed a diverse selection of vendors and enjoyed a lunch generously sponsored by Milam’s Markets, all in support of the Heartbeats for PATCHES’ mission to raise funds and awareness for the specialized daily nursing and therapeutic care, education and enrich ment programs for low-income children with complex medical needs at PATCHES Pediatric Nursing Center in Florida City. The event welcomed participants of all skill levels, fostering a warm atmosphere of camaraderie while raising essential funds for PATCHES vital programs. The vendor market featured a variety of local boutique businesses, offering attendees aunique shopping experience while contributing to the cause.
“The success of this year’s event reflects the power of our community coming to gether to support children in poverty with medical complexities,” said Pamela Ro driguez of Heartbeats for PATCHES. “Every dollar raised helps ensure that we can continue to support the life-changing care provided to these young patients and their families.”
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit PATCHES’ day-to-day operations. With 59 percent of families served by the center living below the federal poverty level, and only a portion eligible for Med icaid funding, community contributions are essential to sustaining these services. Funds raised from past Heartbeats for PATCHES events have contributed to vital needs at the center, including new electronic beds for the children, an early childhood teacher’s salary, specialized wheelchairs, therapy equipment and the co-sponsorship of a new van, to name a few.
