True-life story filmed in Aventura starring Judd Hirsch

The touching new drama/comedy, “iMordecai,” directed by South Florida’s own Marvin Samel, received special recognition from the City of Aventura as former Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman, Vice Mayor Billy Joel, Commissioner Dr. Linda Marks and Commissioner Rachel Friedland  joined together to proclaim February 8th  dedicated as  iMordecai Day in the City of Aventura.  The proclamation was announced just after the Florida premiere of iMordecai at AMC Aventura to a sellout crowd of over 500 guests.   The film is the true-life story of how Holocaust survivor Mordecai Samel’s life changed when his son bought him an iPhone.

“It’s an unbelievable honor and dream come true. The culmination of an eight-year journey has led to this moment and I am incredibly honored. I will never forget this feeling,” said director Marvin Samel.

The Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce partnered with the production team to kick off the Florida premiere, and AMC Chairman’s Roundtable member Russ Lazega, attorney, author and working on producing his own film from his best-selling true story, “Managing Bubbie”, served as Event Chairman. The evening began with a star-studded red carpet  featuring co-stars from the film, rising young actress Azia Dinea Hale, actor Nick Puga, producer Dahlia Heyman, director Marvin Samel, and the star of the night, the real-life Mordecai Samel. “To share this evening with not only my family and friends, but the amazing cast and crew who worked tirelessly on the film, is truly special,” said Samel.  Lazega presented Mordecai with a cap emblazoned with the words, “Aventura is for Shoppers”, a take-off of the cap that the movie’s star Judd Hirsh always wore that said “Virginia is for Lovers”

The film, which is now playing at AMC Aventura, was the winner of the 2022 Miami Jewish Film Festival Audience Award and will now begin its theatrical run in South Florida theaters.

Samel is taking “iMordecai: On Tour” —an unapologetic and raw look into how a cigar maker became a film maker. These live, in-person Q&A’s will be happening all over South Florida with cast members. To follow along for tickets and locations please visit: https://www.imordecai.com/tickets
