Miami HEAT forward, team captain, and three-time NBA champion, Udonis Haslem, hosted the Udonis Haslem Children’s Foundation’s 8th annual holiday party on Saturday, December 22. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization which promotes childhood literacy and development via programs and services designed to maximize a child’s personal and educational potential.
Each year Haslem, a devoted advocate for childhood education, identifies students from Dade and Broward County schools who have excelled academically despite various sociodemographic factors. This year, the foundation has chosen to honor the students of the Critics’ Choice Award Winning Thespian Troupe 88470, from the Expressive Arts magnet program at Charles R. Drew K-8 Center; along with other qualified students from various schools. The students enjoyed a full day excursion, beginning with a personal meet-and-greet with Haslem to congratulate those selected. The students later then convened with Haslem at a local Walmart where they received a backpack filled with various goodies and a $200 gift card for a shopping spree.
The event concluded with an afternoon lunch at 800° Woodfired Kitchen in Aventura, a restaurant opened earlier this year by Haslem and teammate Dwyane Wade.
