Announced this week – the U.S. ends COVID-19 vaccine requirements for international inbound travelers on May 11, easing a significant entry barrier for global visitors. Last year, the U.S. rolled back inbound testing requirements and the news is expected to boost what’s already anticipated to be a busy international summer travel season.
Travel’s economic footprint
Just in time for National Travel & Tourism Week – new data from U.S. Travel illustrates the industry’s vital role in bolstering the American economy. Direct travel spending in the U.S. in 2022 came in at $1.2 trillion, supporting nearly 15 million American workers. Travel spending generated nearly $160 billion in tax revenues, including $84 billion for state and local coffers, and helped alleviate an average of $1,270 in taxes per U.S. household.
