It’s that magnificent time of year, when everyone is happy to get outside and enjoy the gorgeous Miami weather. Saturday, December 13th is the time to head to Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne for the annual SunSmart 5K walk/run. The event starts at 7:30 am, and winds around beautiful Key Biscayne.
The annual SunSmart 5K supports the UM nonprofit dermatology group that is dedicated to promoting skin cancer prevention and funding melanoma research at the University of Miami. Each participant in the SunSmart 5K not only receives a free skin cancer screening by UM dermatologists, but also knows that their participation helps empower our community with the knowledge of sun safe practices and skin cancer prevention.
Garrett Kraft, the chairman of this year’s event reminds us, “Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and it’s also one of the most preventable. The SunSmart 5K raises funds for education and research. The free skin cancer screenings help remind everyone that routine sun protection and early detection save lives.”
Participants will also receive great swag bags with T-shirts, sunscreen and more!
