Every year during the summer months, animal welfare and rescue organizations across the country experience an influx of pets in need of loving homes.
With numbers on the rise and in anticipation of expected new arrivals continuing throughout the summer, Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) is making a plea for adopters and fosters to open their hearts and homes to a shelter pet, especially medium and large size dogs.
Animal Services has taken in nearly more than 2,600 animals in the past month alone, and currently has more than 450 adorable adoptable pets ready to go home with a forever or foster family today.
Interested adopters and fosters can help by visiting the Pet Adoption and Protection Center, as soon as possible, to meet available pets.
Foster families can help by providing a temporary home to a medium or large size dog. No prior foster experience is necessary.
There is no cost for foster families and Animal Services will provide supplies needed to care for the pet. Foster families with students looking to earn community service hours will be awarded three times the credit of hours. To sign up send an email to asdfoster@miamidade.gov or visit Animals.miamidade.gov and Animal Services will provide a foster orientation training and match the new foster with a pet in need of a caring temporary home.
All adoptions include the first set of age-appropriate vaccines, microchip, deworming, and spay/neuter surgery. Adoption fees are $85 for puppies, $65 for dogs 4 months and older and $35 for cats.
The Animal Services’ Pet Adoption and Protection Center is located at 3599 NW 79 Ave., Doral 33122, and is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Animal Services is the largest municipal animal shelter in South Florida and has been a nationally recognized no-kill facility every year since 2015.
