More than 100 guests enjoyed a late afternoon at the ballpark on Saturday, Aug. 26, as they celebrated the many accomplishments of yesteryear’s Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s former members during the organization’s third annual Alumni Reunion and Hall of Fame Induction. This year’s event was again hosted by the Marlins Foundation at Marlins Park.
Six former club members were inducted to the clubs’ Alumni Hall of Fame and honored with an afternoon of food, refreshments and celebrations, including a special announcement from Home Plate with video projection of each of the inductees. Immediately following the presentation, inductees and their guest were able to enjoy seats in a special section and watch the Marlins vs. Padres game courtesy of the Marlins Foundation.
The event was emceed by former club football coach as well as and board and Hall of Fame member Howard Master.
The six inductees into the Alumni Hall of Fame were Nicole Perez, traffic reporter for WPLG Channel 10 News; Arturo Alvarez, of counsel attorney with De La Peña Group; Carlos Alvarez, Tallahassee attorney and NFF College Football Hall of Fame member; Judge Michael A. Genden, retired judge for Florida’s 11th Circuit Court Probate Division; Mike Lowell, retired MLB third baseman for the New York Yankees, Miami Marlins and the Boston Red Sox, and Hugh Wilson, writer, director and creator of TV sitcoms and movies.
The talents, dedication and skills of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade alumni have made a mark in South Florida and beyond. Their professions range from sports, entertainment, business, medicine, politics, justice, art, education and more. Although each member’s path to success was different, they all attribute a great part of their success was due to what they gained from the life-changing programs and the caring and compassionate staff at their local Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade.
