Suffolk Construction, one of the largest building contractors in Florida, teamed up with Brightline, the express intercity train arriving in 2017, and the United Way to rejuvenate one of the city’s most important community centers, the YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade, 351 NW Fifth St.
More than 40 volunteers from the three organizations completed a half-day renovation project on Friday, June 3, that transformed the YWCA’s after school room, teen center and computer clubhouse, which will benefit approximately 125 Miami-Dade children and teens who visit the center each year.
“The United Way is one of Miami-Dade’s premier community outreach organizations. Suffolk is proud to be a sponsor of the Mayor’s Ball and also donate our time and expertise to further improve this exceptional city,” said Jeffrey A. Gouveia Jr., Suffolk’s president and general manager. “At Suffolk Construction, we believe that building people and building hope is an important step toward constructing a better future for all of us, and the Greater Miami YWCA does just that by empowering women and providing children with a safe and nurturing environment.”
The project was part of Suffolk Construction’s ongoing Suffolk Cares initiative to create a brighter future for people in need, as well as part of Brightline’s pledge to support the community in and around the MiamiCentral development.
