I really like the simplicity of the 2022 Hyundai KONA N SUV.
It stands out because it looks sharp and drives smoothly on a four-cylinder, 195 horsepower, 1.6-liter engine, which delivers 29 miles per gallon in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, with 32 mpg combined.
The available 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine is snappy and powerful, producing 276 horsepower with 289 pound-feet of torque. All in all, the KONA N can deliver 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway for a combined 23 mpg.
What’s great about the N line is that the sporty feel is extended throughout the vehicle, which has been designed to be longer. The badging on this $28,000 vehicle is everywhere — from the seats to the shifter to the tire rims. It comes with 18-inch wheels, which are combined with a lower profile that continues the design aesthetic in line with its sporty look and feel. The large split grill with the mesh pattern combines with bright LED lamps that bring everything together in an attractive package.
The inside looks great, with red stitching on the seats and brushed aluminum pedals. This car looks and feels like it could jump on any racetrack and give the other cars a run for their money.
The KONA comes standard with a larger eight-inch touchscreen. You also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as part of the standard package. The instrument panel also can be digital, which is a great choice when considering features for any car. It lets you control the information in a more customized way that delivers the right information the way you want it and when you need it.
The available 10.25-inch infotainment screen is clear and simple and gives the driver full control of major parts of the experience inside the cabin. The seats feel luxurious and comfortable. I enjoyed my experience in the cabin and would want to have it again.
The space in the front and back is good, allowing the driver and passengers to get a comprehensive experience no matter where they sit. That’s important in an SUV, which usually packs more people and things. I also like the fold down seats in the back, which create a lot of extra space when you are buying furniture, at the hardware store or the sports field with the kids.
The colors are fantastic, too. They are bright and unique, which is another standout for the Hyundai KONA N.
The 2022 Hyundai KONA N deserves a drive. You will thank me for it.
