Inspiring film to make its world premiere at Miami Film FestivalFilm director Jose Navas already has made a name for himself in the industry after his last project, El Balsero, won multiple festivals across the country. His next big hit is Beat Lingo, a film that follows the unique story of a mute boy who is a prodigy beatboxer, which will be making its world premiere at the 38th Miami Film Festival this month (March).

The production features a talented ensemble cast of young actors and it was all filmed in Miami. The film’s main backdrop is the mural splattered walls of Jose De Diego Middle School in the heart of Wynwood. With the support of Miami-Dade County and the school’s principal, the director and his entire team are gearing up to present something truly special.

“Life is measured by pains and losses, love and happiness,” Navas said. “So much of what I do as a filmmaker is tapping into those emotions that aren’t always pleasant. But this allows us to understand and appreciate love so much better.”

As past winners of the festival, Jose and his team are confident that this inspirational story will stand out against this year’s impressive festival lineup. The powerful film is matched by the breakthrough performance of Corvonte Davis who, although his character is mute, fills the screen with raw emotion and captures the struggles of a young boy who cannot speak.

The Miami Film Festival will be hosting the in-person screening of Beat Lingo on Sunday, Mar. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Silverspot Cinema Downtown.
