The American Diabetes Association, in partnership with the Father’s Day Council, has named Jose A. Hernandez-Solaun, a resident of Coral Gables and president of Doral-based
The Easton Group, as a 2014 Father of the Year.
The honor is bestowed upon three fathers from Miami-Dade County each year who have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal and professional lives while serving as outstanding role models in their respective communities. The award will be presented at a fundraising dinner on Saturday, May 31, at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami, with proceeds going to the American Diabetes Association.
Hernandez-Solaun is married with two children, ages 2 and 5. In addition to his family and work duties, he finds time to give back to the community. He has served on the Miami-Dade/Monroe Board of the American Diabetes Association for the past three years — the past two as chair. He also is a committee member for the national organization.
“When we were looking for worthy fathers to nominate this year, we realized we had one right in front of us,” said Jaret L. Davis, chair of the South Florida Father’s Day Advisory Council. “Jose has done a great job of managing the challenging task of balancing his family time with professional time and commitments. He has managed to excel professionally and give back to the community, while never losing sight of his top priority being a loving and devoted father.”
Hernandez-Solaun displays passion in every aspect of his life and has worked hard to establish himself both professionally and in the community. In addition to his work with the American Diabetes Association, Hernandez-Solaun chairs the MIT Enterprise Forum of South Florida. He also leads a family foundation which educates young adults on the basics of personal finance, credit and business fundamentals.
Two years ago, The Easton Group’s chair and founder Edward W. Easton also was named a Father of the Year. It was then the two first met.
“Jose has the drive and passion to be successful on the job, but he also understands the importance of putting the same amount of energy into his family life,” Easton said. “That is an important value for us at The Easton Group. I want to congratulate Jose on this great honor as it is well deserved.”
Hernandez-Solaun joined The Easton Group earlier this year as president.
