June is Pride Month and Miami Children’s Museum is hosting its Seventh annual Rainbow Families Month celebration all month long.
The museum long has been a leader in inclusive programming reflective of the diversity of our community. The Museum created the annual Rainbow Families celebration to teach families about inclusion, help break the stigma that continues to negatively impact the LGBTQ+ community and highlight that all families are special. LGBTQ+ families are an important part of the community.
Now that once again the museum is open every day of the week, the museum has programmed a variety of activities within the museum, through social media channels and online Museum at Home program to bring a wider acceptance and understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.
Rainbow Families Month programing is sponsored by Nordstrom and made possible by a grant from Our Fund Foundation, an LGBTQ Community Foundation.
This year’s Rainbow Families celebration is a hybrid event with both online resources and in-person programming throughout the entire month. Visit Museum at Home or social media channels to enjoy videos where you can learn about important LGBTQ+ figures throughout history, learn how to make rainbow popcorn, enjoy a story telling of The Family Book, and meet some special guest readers.
At the Museum, you can expect live interactive story times, as well as a colorful collage project inspired by Keith Haring in the Art Studio. A special weekend celebration will take place on Saturday, June 26, and Sunday, June 27, with play sessions available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. All families are encouraged to participate in a variety of inclusive activities such as drag queen story times, collaborative art projects, a socially distant outdoor parade, and more.
Rainbow Families Month activities are designed to help all children self-identify, gain a better understanding of the LGTBQ+ community, build allyship and acknowledge an important part of our community’s diverse fabric.
It all is happening at Miami Children’s Museum, located at 980 MacArthur Causeway, Miami, FL 33132. Or you can visit miamichildrensmuseum.org to participate in the museum’s exciting Museum at Home online program, which brings the experiences of the museum to the safety and comfort of one’s own home.
