The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Dade Heritage Trust on Apr. 17 issued statements in response to the news that Miami Marine Stadium officially has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
“This is another huge step forward for Miami Marine Stadium,” said Stephanie Meeks, president and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. “Just a few years ago, the future of this iconic venue was very much in doubt, as years of abandonment had left it badly deteriorated and largely forgotten.
“Thanks to the leadership of the city, as well as advocacy efforts by the National Trust, Dade Heritage Trust and others, Miami Marine Stadium is on track to once again be a vital gathering place for music, arts, and sports lovers in Miami.
“This is a great day for all of us who love Miami Marine Stadium, and we applaud the National Park Service for officially recognizing what a unique and important place it is,” Meeks added.
“Dade Heritage Trust congratulates the City of Miami as owner of this important historic and cultural resource” said Christine Rupp, executive director of Dade Heritage Trust. “We look forward to working with the city and fellow supporters of the Miami Marine Stadium and Basin to celebrate its reopening and vibrant operations for generations to come.”
