Miami’s Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart recently announced the appointment of two accomplished education professionals to lead the school under a new dual-leadership model. Carrollton’s board of trustees has named Heather Gillingham-Rivas as the new head of school, and Patrick Coyle as president. They begin their new roles on July 1.
In these new positions, the head of school will direct academic programs and curriculum, faculty hiring and staff development, faith formation of students and faculty, counseling and student life, athletics and extra-curricular programs. The president will focus on institutional advancement and development, facilities and infrastructure, public relations and marketing, faith formation of the non-educational staff and alumnae relations.
The head of school and the president also will share many duties, such as spiritual leadership, board relations, strategic planning, social justice, inclusion and diversity, community engagement, admissions and financial aid.
“This new management structure is a relationship-driven and collaborative model that will expand the breadth and depth of expertise at the highest level of our organization,” said Carrollton Board of Trustees chair Raphael Bastian. “We look forward to Heather and Patrick leading Carrollton into the next phase of our school’s growth as a Catholic, independent, Sacred Heart school of excellence.”
Gillingham-Rivas is a Carrollton alum and has served the school in both instructional and leadership positions for 20 years, including the last 16 years as Carrollton’s intermediate school head. She has been a trusted member of the academic and administrative teams involved in decision making and strategic planning that helped create the high level of success the school community enjoys today. Gillingham-Rivas earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Harvard University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Barry University. During her time at Carrollton, she established her career around the formation and education of students, faculty and parents, and the mission of a Carrollton and Sacred Heart education.
“I can think of no better way to continue serving the Carrollton community than to ensure academic excellence and an enriched student experience,” Gillingham-Rivas said. “I look forward to engaging with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumnae, and trustees to envision a brilliant future for Carrollton, propelled forward by its exceptional past.”
Coyle most recently served as the chief communications officer at Lake Forest Academy, an independent boarding and day school outside of Chicago, where he developed and implemented strategic communications initiatives to advance the school’s mission and brand.
Prior to Lake Forest Academy, Coyle was the director of marketing and communications and chief of staff at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, MD for over eight years.
He has extensive experience in strategic planning, capital campaigns, crisis communication, social media marketing, and alumni relations. Patrick is a graduate of Dickinson College earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.
