The River Landing Shops & Residences, the 8.14-acre-mixed use development currently under construction on the Miami River, continues to attract national tenants to the Mid River District west of Downtown Miami.
Global fitness center operator Planet Fitness has signed a lease to occupy 18,560 square feet at the $425 million development. River Landing is scheduled to open in the spring.
Planet Fitness will be located on a mezzanine level of the shopping center and is expected to open in fall. Planet Fitness joins an array of national tenants that will be occupying space in the 2 million-square-foot River Landing, including Publix Super Markets, Burlington Stores, TJ Maxx, Ross Dress For Less, AT&T, Old Navy, Chick-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby.
“The addition of Planet Fitness to our roster of tenants helps solidify River Landing as a bedrock shopping and lifestyle hub for residents living and/or working in the Mid River District, Health District, Allapattah, and neighboring areas,” said Andrew Hellinger, a principal with Coral Gables-based Urban-X Group.
Hellinger and partner Coralee Penabad are the developers behind River Landing.
“Together with our residential and office offerings, River Landing will be one of the premier destinations within the South Florida market to live, relax and enjoy life on the river. As we near completion of the project, we expect to announce other new tenants soon,” he added.
River Landing stands to enhance Miami’s river culture by creating a modern waterfront shopping, dining, lifestyle destination to serve one of South Florida’s most densely populated areas. Some of River Landing’s neighboring communities include Allapattah and Miami’s Health District to the North, Overtown and Downtown Miami to the east, and Little Havana to the south.
Planet Fitness is one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers in the United States. It provides members with a high-quality fitness experience in a welcoming, non-intimidating environment. Each Planet Fitness location includes brand name cardio and strength equipment, fully equipped locker rooms, flat screen televisions and more.
River Landing Shops and Residences will consist of approximately 360,000 square feet of retail/commercial space, 118,000 square feet of office, 528 market-rate apartments, more than 2,000 parking spaces and a landscaped Riverwalk.
