Shutts & Bowen has announced that Alexander I. Tachmes, a partner in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, has been appointed to The Juilliard Council.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve on The Juilliard Council,” said Tachmes, who is chair of Shutts & Bowen’s Land Use and Government Relations Practice Group and a member of the Real Estate Practice Group.

“Juilliard is one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the world,” Tachmes said. “I look forward to helping the school in its pursuit of excellence and in its goal of producing the world’s finest musicians, dancers and actors.”

Founded in 1905, the New York City-based school is located on the campus of Lincoln Center and is recognized as the most celebrated performing arts school in the world. The Juilliard School offers undergraduate degrees, as well as master’s and PhD programs in music, dance and drama, and accepts only a small percentage of applicants each year.

The Juilliard Council meets regularly and provides advice and financial support to The Juilliard School.

A Martindale-Hubbell AV rated attorney, Tachmes concentrates his practice in the areas of governmental matters, including land use and zoning, public-private transactions, competitive bidding and lobbying, and commercial real estate transactions, including hospitality matters. He is a published author on government contracts compliance and a lecturer and panelist on hospitality and tourism topics.

Tachmes previously served as vice president and a member of the board of Miami City Ballet. He also served for several years on the board of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, including as a member of the Executive Committee, Finance and Operations Committee and Management Committee and as assistant treasurer. In addition to his work as a board member of the Ballet and the Arsht, Tachmes and his firm also handled many legal matters on a pro bono basis for both organizations.
