Shiny and beautiful, the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport First Edition is a cutting-edge luxury SUV at its finest.
When I say shiny, I’m not kidding. NASA called me to let me know they could see me from space — and they liked what they saw.
The 2022 Range Rover Sport Edition eliminated everything it didn’t need. It felt modern and sleek like few vehicles I have driven. That means everything from the flush door handles to the newly redesigned grille is minimalist, which gives it a punch like Rocky in the first movie.
The 395 horsepower base engine on the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport First Edition is a 3.0-liter inline, mild-hybridized straight-six. The new engine is a 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8 with 523 horsepower. This is a powerful machine that can deliver performance at a moment’s notice/ I like that. The engine delivers a combined 20 miles per gallon.
On the exterior, the 23-inch wheels have a stronger look because of the shorter front overhang. It is compact and mighty and comes complete with the signature design features for which the Land Rover is known. In addition to the short front overhang, you get the gently falling roofline, which is immediately recognizable on the highway, across the parking lot and at the valet station. This vehicle looks like $1 million bucks, but actually starts at $94,000 and can go as high as $163,000 for a fully loaded model.
I like all the modern touches. The grille is simple with rectangular shapes that form a modern design. The LED lights are powerful and thin both in the front and the rear, which has a thin tailgate. This is counter to what you see in a lot of competitive vehicles today, with big lights that make them look like a landing strip at an airport. I also like that the lines on the body of the 2022 Range Rover Sport Edition are kept to a minimum, giving it a clean and powerful feel that few SUVs can match.
On the inside, you get luxury, with creamy smooth leather and a nice solid steering wheel.
I like what the engineers did here because the cabin feels fresh, but familiar. The fresh comes in the form of a 13.1-inch infotainment screen, which sits on top of the dash. The screen is brilliant and bright and cuts through Florida’s blinding light days and makes all the important information clear on those beautiful South Florida nights.
I particularly like the 1,600-watt Meridian sound system featuring speakers with noise cancellation on the headrest. That means that the entire vehicle has a consistent sound and feel that reaches from the front to the third row, which is available on the long-wheel base.
The wheelbase also has some great technology attached to it like the road reading air suspension system that feeds data into the navigation computer.
For my money, the 2022 Range Rover Sport Edition is a fun, luxurious vehicle with lots of power and punch. Take it home and let me know how much you like it.
