A Royal High Tea was a perfect way for mothers, grandmothers and daughters to spend a lovely afternoon together celebrating Mothers Day a week early. Ladies donned their hats and fine attire on Saturday afternoon, May 4, and enjoyed an exquisite high tea at the historic Coral Gables Woman’s Club. Moms, daughters and friends gathered enjoying music, tea, yummy tea sandwiched, desserts, some opportunities to buy gifts for moms with a Kendra Scott’s pop up and a silent auction. Best of all, the money made will be directed to the club’s free children’s dental clinic.
Pinecrest resident Kim Davison, who chairs the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Conservation Committee, was on hand with the club’s Crime Watch Chair Ana Lam for the Porch with George event held recently at the historic home of George Merrick in Coral Gables. Kim and her committee have come up with many ways to recycle and re-purpose items. One such endeavor was re purposing t shirts and making no sew tote bags which she had on display at the event. It is always great to have those in your car when shopping to save on use of plastic bags which, of course, in Coral Gables are banned but a good option for Pinecrest shoppers.
Another great Gringo Bingo night was held on May 7, hosted by Clutch Burger and coordinated by Coral Gables Woman’s Club in cooperation with some other participating General Federation of Women’s Club Florida District 11 Clubs. This month’s fundraiser benefited Operation Smile, which is the GFWC FL President’s Project that funds cleft palate surgeries. These monthly events help raise funds for a different charity every month thanks to the generosity of Clutch Burgers’ Ana and Steven Bradley. Admission is $25 and includes specialty drink, appetizers and lots of fun with guest DJ Germain providing music. You get 6 game cards for $5 and a chance to win some amazing prizes throughout the evening. An extra $10 gets you unlimited specialty drinks while beer and wine are $5 each. $20 dollars of all the tickets sold and all the card sales go directly to charity thanks to Clutch Burger. Next up will be an event to benefit one of Coral Gables Rotary’s International Committee projects.. goats for families in a small Haitian village. RSVP is a must as space is limited. On April 25, the Annual South Florida Firefighters Calendar Luncheon brought a crowd of almost 400 women to Jungle Island for an extremely entertaining show during which South Florida firefighters strutted their stuff on the runway to compete to be in the 2020 calendar and collected dollars for charity with proceeds benefiting the UM Burn Center and A Safe Haven for Newborns. Safe Haven’s VIP table of women included several from the Coral Gables Woman’s Club and Home Financing Center including Marti Bueso, Arely Ruiz, Valerie Valenzuela, Scarlet Colson, and Ana Hedman.
