South Florida was well represented at the GFWC Florida Federation of Women’s Club’s Annual Fall Board planning conference in Orlando the weekend of September 23, before Hurricane Ian made a mess of things. GFWC FL’s District 11, comprised of 12 clubs, sent several members including its District 11 Director Virginia Yermoli to this conference that included some amazing workshops. Every State President chooses a pet project for all the clubs to support and President Linda O’Toole selected a good one, Camp Boggy Creek.
In fact, one of the highlights of the conference included a presentation and talk by Dr. Dan Strub who volunteers with Camp Boggy Creek where children of serious illnesses or conditions are treated to a week-long camping experience with doctors and needed medical equipment on hand to make sure the kids are cared for. Strub’s daughter Sara, 13, now volunteers at the camp after having been a camper there and survivor of childhood leukemia.
This camping resort near Eustis, FL takes children from all over the state and it is life changing for all involved. For more info on the camp, visit www.boggycreek.org or go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aeY6u2mcZ0/ where Virginia Yermoli discussed Camp Boggy Creek, the FFWC President’s Project, with me. This show also shares information about the amazing projects and programs our area clubs have recently produced making a positive impact from knitting afghans and sewing bears for Camp Boggy Creek to cleaning up our neighborhoods. These women work nonstop.
