The year 2021 is momentous for both the Rotary Club of Coral Gables and the South Miami/ Coral Gables Elks Lodge, both of whom have members who live beyond the Gables including many Pinecrest residents. Both of these amazing service organizations provide such a huge positive impact on our community and beyond while meeting the challenge of our ongoing pandemic. They are safely providing services, volunteer efforts and even figuring out creative ways to celebrate and raise funds to continue supporting their many charitable programs and initiatives.
The Rotary Club of Coral Gables just kicked off their Diamond Jubilee Auction fundraiser on Valentine’s Day that will run through March 4 with an online party. If you love diamonds (and who doesn’t), the RCCG Auction is all diamond jewelry hosted by Carroll’s with diamond jewelry from Carroll’s, Snow’s, Jae’s, and even some $10,000 worth of diamond jewelry donated by RCCG Past President Sally Baumgartner. Proceeds from the auction will be directed to the club’s RCCG Foundation that makes grants to numerous charitable organizations such as Chapman Partnership, Coral Gables Children’s Dental Clinic, Shake-A-Leg, Shelter Box, and more. On February 13, South Miami / Coral Gables Elks Lodge 1676 celebrated its 75th Jubilee year with their annual Charity Ball fundraiser. Proceeds from that event are directed to the Harry-Anna Fund, a fund that supports underserved children throughout Florida with occupational and physical therapy, and a free Summer Youth Camp. Congratulations to both RCCG and the SM/CG Elks on reaching this milestone.
On the healthcare and pandemic related news front, South Florida PBS is giving us more insight with a new documentary: Fauci: The Virus Hunter, a documentary exploring Dr. Anthony Fauci’s life and career. This is a South Florida PBS’ Health Channel original production in partnership with The Associated Press and Hispanic Information Telecommunications (HITN) premieres on March 15 at 10 p.m. on WPBT, WXEL and Health Channel.
In other news, GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club, held their February and March Gringo Bingo events at Clutch Burger. The two events raised approximately $3,000 to support the club’s free children’s dental clinic thanks to 1st Elite Premier Financial & EZ Title Services who sponsored both months. Clutch Burger has an outdoor area on Giralda Plaza that provides a safe environment in keeping with Covid-19 protocols. DJ Germain’s music always makes this a party much to the delight of the ever growing bingo regulars like Pinecrest resident, Kim Davison, who also chairs the CGWC’s Conservation Committee. To sign up for these monthly events usually held the first Tuesday of the month, email gloria@cnews.net. It’s only $20 for 12 games with great prizes and all proceeds going to charity.
Until next time, keep making each day count, share an act of kindness every day and stay safe.
