Located in the heart of Coral Gables sits the only Clutch Burger Restaurant in existence. This gourmet, family-style restaurant offers a selection of over 60 types of beer and uniquely flavored burgers that will keep you craving for more. It is likely to become every foodie’s favorite burger joint because, starting right at the front door, it’s cleat there’s simply nowhere else like it.
Upon arriving, customers are immediately greeted with top-notch hospitality and a refreshingly welcoming environment. With quality food and great drinks to retro arcade games and one of the best outdoor seating areas in the Gables, no one quite describes the experience better than Owner Steve Bradley: “You come into Clutch Burger and you feel like it’s the cheers of Coral Gables – everyone knows your name!”
As a businessman, Bradley learned how to “hustle” at an early age and that the key is to address the needs of different communities head on. Growing up in Chicago and running several successful bowling alleys, he learned how to serve others. When he moved to Miami, he struggled to find authentic gourmet family-styled joints in Miami that weren’t part of a corporate chain.
So, with a big burger-loving heart, and over a bottle of scotch one evening, Bradley engaged in an extensive name game to ultimately arrive at the precise concept of Clutch Burger. For some, the term “clutch” might mean a type of purse or how to shift in a standard transmission car. For others, it could be used to describe an incredible football play or new Nike Jordans. But for Clutch Burger, it’s defined as “something conveniently awesome.” Simple as that!
A typical day here would see Steve, the ever-consummate host, socializing with customers while his wife Ana, the creative mind behind the restaurant’s menu, keeps busy in the kitchen preparing all the delicious food for eager customers in the dining room. But there’s so much more going on behind the scenes, notes Bradley. After all, operating a successful stand-alone restaurant does not come without a whole host of challenges.
Clutch Burger opened its doors in July 2018, nearly a year before the pandemic. So, when the shut-down kicked in, Bradley knew he had to adapt his business model in order to stay afloat, so he kicked into high gear. He shifted his service model from selling just one burger to one person, to selling multiple burgers at a discounted price to each person. The marketing concept, aptly named “Clutch it Forward,” allowed for customers to order burgers for example, for first responders working the pandemic, which would then be delivered by the restaurant.
From winning the best chicken wings in Miami by Wings for Wishes to being named the 6th best burger joint in the country, according to Yelp and money.com, Clutch Burger is an award-winning restaurant that never misses an opportunity to give back to the community.
Says Bradley, “That was always the way I was raised, you know, to be charitable.” Whether it’s through monthly Gringo Bingo game nights for charity, to delicious sit-down meals with family, he stands by this simple customer service approach: “I sell memories, and you happen to eat a good burger as well.”
In 2023, Clutch Burger plans to make a variety of appearances including at Sobe Wine and Food, Burgerlicious in the Gables, and Tour of Kitchens. The restaurant also launched a new menu on January 1 featuring a little bit of “Chicago love” with a new Italian beef-inspired sandwich, as well as a “Pollo Inferno” sandwich for local spice lovers.
Clutch Burger is located at 146 Giralda Avenue in Coral Gables. The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from noon to 10 p.m.; and Friday through Saturday from noon to 1 a.m.
