Juan Tejera has taken on the role as president of The Beauty of Sight Foundation and has also served as president of the Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind.

A CPA with 49 years of experience in everything from accounting, auditing, and strategic planning to valuation and administration, Juan was a great choice to take on that new foundation whose mission is to promote favorite non-for-profit organizations like the Florida Lions Eye Bank

Juan, a native of Cuba, emigrated to the United States at 16 years old and graduated from Jefferson High School in Tampa. He then graduated with a BS in Accounting from the University of South Florida where he met the mother of his two daughters and wife of 49 years, Elizabeth.

Juan Tejera became Certified by the State of Florida Board of Accountancy in 1971, and a Certified Valuation analyst by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts in 1996. He began his professional career with Coopers and Lybrand from 1968 to 1971. He moved on to work with the firm of Laventhol and Horwath, where he became an audit partner in 1982, in addition to many other responsibilities before starting his own firm in Coral Gables where he moved in 1979.

Juan’s community involvement and charity work began as a teenager. In 1967, he spent three months on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with a Catholic Church program to alphabetize and assist the farmers in organizing agricultural cooperatives. As a young man he joined the Lions Club in 1974 and since has served in multiple offices including being president twice, District 35-N Governor, ZoneChair and Treasurer multiple times.

Juan has conducted, both in the United States and abroad, multiple professional seminars, speaking engagements, informational radio and television programs and published professional articles. These speaking engagements often serve to promote favorite causes like the Lions Eye Bank. Among his many accolades, in 1999, he was named Business Man of the Month by the Interamerican Businessmen Association.

From church ministries and community activities to Miami-Dade County boards, Juan relishes in giving back and making a difference.

The Archdiocese of Miami also honored him with the medal Premium Regnum Dei in 2008.

In other community work, Juan served as chair of the Miami-Dade County Affirmative Action Board and was a member of the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board and the Miami-Dade County Transportation Board. For his service, he was honored by having the Miami-Dade County commission declare Dec. 16, 1997, as Juan Tejera Day.
