During a recent regular meeting, the School Board of Miami-Dade County commissioned two architectural firms and awarded a construction company for General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at Coral Gables Senior High School and Frances S. Tucker K-8 Center.
Coral Gables Senior High School — Silva Architects LLC was chosen as Architect/Engineer of Record for this $30 million renovation project.
Built in 1950, Coral Gables Senior High School consists of 25 acres and is comprised of 15 permanent buildings and covered walkways, with a total capacity of 2,906 student stations and a total of 2,916 enrolled students.
The scope of the project includes the demolition and replacement of Building 14 and existing basketball courts. Two new basketball and volleyball courts will be added, as well as a new 30,000-square-foot gymnasium with a new entrance and covered walkways.
There also will be a new teacher-planning office, new staff restrooms as well as new custodial closets.
The expected completion date is September 2027.
Francis S. Tucker K-8 Center — Wolfberg Alvarez and Partners Inc. was selected as Architect/Engineer of Record for this $12.1 million renovation project.
Built in 1960, Frances S. Tucker K-8 consists of approximately four acres and is comprised of nine permanent buildings and covered walkways, with a total capacity of 486 student stations.
The scope of the work includes the addition of a new middle school building, approximately 17,395 square feet with 128 new student stations. The project also includes relocating the playground and the addition of a new basketball court.
Additional improvements include the remodeling of the existing administration offices, upgrading the kitchen and adding parking spaces.
The expected completion date of the project is August 2027.
