Music lovers came together on Oct. 15 at the UM Gusman Concert Hall for Broadway @ Frost featuring Joshua Henry and Marcus Lovett as part of the Frost Music Live Signature Series.
Henry, Tony-nominated star of Broadway’s Carousel and lead of the first U.S. tour of Hamilton, was honored that night with the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year award. Marcus Lovett, the lead in Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, joined Henry and Frost stars of tomorrow in an evening of iconic music from “The Great White Way.”
Lovett brought the house down with his daughter, another UM School of Music grad, performing Celine Dion and Josh Groban’s hit The Prayer. Henry, following his praise for the program at UM and all who had contributed to his success, also performed to another standing ovation. Dan Strange, Frost School of Music’s director of Contemporary Keyboard Studies, performed masterfully as he accompanied the performances on piano. This series is one not to be missed with another coming.

GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) partnered with the Rotary Club of Coral Gables for a mixer on Oct. 17 at the CGWC’s historic clubhouse at 1009 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. The two groups shared ideas with displays to promote programs that each organization is supporting. In fact, for more than a decade, Coral Gables Rotarians have been making grants to the Coral Gables Children’s Dental Clinic that is located at their clubhouse and this mixer gave CGWC members a chance to have Rotarians tour the clinic.
It was a busy day for CGWC members as Home Life director Mayra Dominguez also organized a morning-long mini health fair for women with refreshments sponsored by United HomeCare. Knowledgeable speakers addressed topics of interest to women during the event enjoyed by all.
In other cultural happenings, there is a new exhibit at the Coral Gables Museum titled “Kindred Spirits…Ten Artists by the Hudson.” This exhibition was recently celebrated with a premier opening reception.
This was yet another exciting and vibrant evening at the museum. Its chair, Lynn Bauer, was on hand to applaud the CGM staff, its board of directors, volunteers and an incredible group of Cuban artists who made the grand opening an unforgettable night.
The exhibit will be on display through Dec 9.
